Join A Journey
JourneyPartners’ ministries take on many aspects; a primary one is facilitating immersion journeys for congregations, organizations, and individuals. Plans for 2010 journeys include the following:
Brazil – In the spring of 2010, JourneyPartners will facilitate the first cultural and mission immersion journey to Brazil, with two teams – one comprised of members of the Alliance of Baptists, and another of student service-learning volunteers from colleges in the southeast. Working in partnership with the Alianca do Brasil, JourneyPartners will assist in rebuilding homes in the grotas of Maceio, in northeastern Brazil. Tiny shacks of cardboard and scrap metal will be replaced with small but sturdy block and brick houses, providing sanitation and water hook-up to city services. Water purification systems can be installed in neighborhoods and communities, allowing access to clean water, and improving the health of all the residents. Travelers will be hosted by Brazilian families, and participate in the life of congregations and communities in Salvador, Maceio and Recife. For more information, see theJourneys webpage (click here?), or contact JourneyPartners at 919.494.2033.
Zimbabwe -- ZimJourneys will take place in June, July and August of 2010; travelers will be offered opportunities to participate in a variety of settings. Medical opportunities include volunteer work at Sanyati Baptist Hospital, one of six rural medical clinics, and vision screening and distribution of glasses. A major project for 2010-2012 will be reconstructing Nenyunga Clinic, a small rural clinic in a remote village among the Tonga people, whose current building is being washed away by the nearby river’s changing course. A Church Leadership Institute will host pastors and lay leaders from across the country in a week of continuing education and professional development. Those interested in teaching may take advantage ofJourneyPartners’ ongoing partnerships with public and mission schools in Sanyati, Gweru, and the northeast. Additional projects will assist the House of Hope, home for Zimbabwean children who have lost both parents to AIDS, Baptist Seminary of Zimbabwe, and various micro-enterprise and agricultural projects throughout Zimbabwe.
United States – Plans for 2010 journeys and projects within the United States are in the planning stages. Potential locations include eastern North Carolina, native American reservations in the Northwest or Southwest, and the rural south. Visit this page again soon for more information about opportunities for a US journey in the months to come.
